Our expertise

IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute works to map and understand environmental impacts and assess the consequences for terrestrial, marine, limnic ecosystems, and urban environments. We identify risks and propose measures for sustainable industry and land and water use in various ecosystems and cities.

We develop tools and evaluate land use and ecosystem management trade-offs, focusing on environmental benefits, reducing climate impact, and promoting biodiversity. Through our work, stakeholders can make well-informed decisions considering the environment and society.

The Ecosystem Group consists of approximately 20 employees who combine fieldwork with office work and are divided between the offices in Gothenburg and Stockholm.

IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute is an independent research institute with the broadest environmental profile in Sweden. Together with businesses, government agencies, and the research community, we drive the transition towards a sustainable society – from science to reality.

We engage in applied research and consulting assignments that contribute to achieving both the global sustainability goals and Sweden's environmental objectives.

Our base is in Sweden, with operations in India and China and our clients are located all over the world. The group has a turnover of 517 million SEK, and the Institute for Water and Air Protection Research Foundation (SIVL) is the sole owner of IVL.
