Hello student!

Meet us and discuss thesis projects!

Meet a Former Thesis Project Student

  • I completed a Master's in Civil Engineering with a focus on Road and Water Construction at Lund University of Technology. For my thesis project, I concentrated on the ability of small and medium-sized companies to carry out climate assessments in accordance with the Climate Declaration Act, as part of IVL's 'Kunskapslyftet SME' project. I chose to work at IVL after an inspiring guest lecture on sustainable building materials, which aligned with my future goals. My time as a thesis project student at IVL was enriching; I felt welcomed and integrated into the team, and being at the office gave me access to expert assistance when needed.

    Armin Taheri

Former thesis project student, now an expert in the business development and commercialization group

  • As a chemical engineering graduate with a focus on industrial ecology from Chalmers University of Technology, I conducted my thesis project at IVL. I compared three different LCA frameworks to analyze the environmental impact of biofuels (HVO). The reason I chose IVL was their intriguing areas of work and proximity to Chalmers. Despite my thesis project being conducted remotely during the pandemic, my knowledgeable supervisor was an invaluable resource. The most rewarding aspect of my thesis project at IVL was the opportunity to discuss ideas with an expert in the field and share my findings with the entire LCM team.

Meet Supervisors at IVL

  • I view supervision as a means to provide students with the opportunity to engage in projects, often directed towards industry, where their efforts can hopefully have a broader impact. With students having an entire semester to contemplate a specific research question, they can delve deep into it, and together, we develop new insights and ponder new ideas. To be an effective supervisor, I believe that clear expectations and student engagement are crucial. My flexibility and accessibility for questions and feedback are fundamental to a rewarding supervision experience. Lastly, although my projects at IVL are not dependent on the outcomes of thesis projects, we highly value the valuable contributions that students bring to the table.

    Elvira Molin

Project Manager and Researcher in the fields of Public Procurement and Food

  • I chose to supervise thesis projects at IVL because it's beneficial to introduce new perspectives into our research projects. Thesis students have the privilege of delving deeply into subjects, enriching our work. The most instructive aspect of supervision is assisting students in improving their interview skills, which in turn leads to more insightful reports. To be an effective supervisor, I believe that maintaining a balance between ensuring useful outcomes and providing students with sufficiently complex challenges is crucial. Thesis projects are a form of education, and it's very enlightening to see how projects can evolve in unexpected ways from their initial plans.
