About the master thesis
Background
The environmental impact from clothing is gaining more and more attention, both in media as well as by policy makers. One way to decrease this is to prolong life. This, however, requires changes in behaviour and lifestyle. In this project we want to quantify the environmental impacts related to clothing and assess how these differs depending on lifestyle. The master thesis project will be a part of the ongoing project CARE (Circular consumption Activities to tRansform households toward material Efficiency), funded by the European Union. In the CARE project, 100 households in five countries will be transformed to circular model households focusing on clothes and food. This master thesis is a part of work package dealing with life cycle assessment (LCA) of the households clothing consumption and use.
Purpose and scope
The purpose of this thesis is to develop a framework for assessing the environmental impacts of households’ consumption and use of clothes using LCA. The aim is to identify general environmental hotspots stemming from different lifestyles as well as main methodological challenges related to such an assessment.
Prerequisites
We welcome applicants from master programs such as industrial ecology or sustainable energy systems. Previous knowledge in LCA is preferred but not mandatory.
