About the Role
The energy group at IVL will now further strengthen its combined expertise in the production, distribution, and use of various energy carriers. The area is growing, and our experienced and driven project managers and experts are now in need of another colleague to meet the demand and help build the area. We are seeking an Energy Systems and Sustainability Expert to lead interdisciplinary projects that bridge energy systems, economic analysis, and sustainability to increase the pace of the ongoing transition to a fossil-free society.
This role fits professionals who thrive at the intersection of technical innovation and economic feasibility and with a deep understanding of renewable energy integration, energy system optimization, and sustainability assessments. You will play a key role in advancing IVL’s expertise in energy production, distribution, and use, contributing to Sweden’s and the EU's sustainability goals and collaborate across disciplines, engage with stakeholders, and lead innovative projects that evaluate technical, environmental, and economic aspects of energy systems, helping to shape the global transition toward sustainable solutions and circular economies.
We work with both applied research and assignments for customers from industry, trade associations and authorities, nationally and within the EU. You will also be involved in collaborations within IVL and with external partners, where you contribute your expert knowledge to larger joint projects.
Your background
To succeed in the role, you have:
- A PhD and/or Master’s degree in Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, Sustainability, Economics, or related fields.
- 10+ years of experience in energy research, consultancy, or project management, focusing on renewable energy, sustainability, economic assessments, and system optimization.
- Proven ability to deliver interdisciplinary projects combining technical and economic analyses.
- Experience in developing and leading research and development projects in an industrial or academic environment.
- Experience in selling assignments and writing applications and/or tenders in relevant and development areas.
- A track record of planning or/and implementing EU-funded or large-scale research and development projects.
- Expertise in energy modelling tools (e.g., TIMES, GAINS) and data visualization platforms like Microsoft Power BI.
- Experience with sustainability assessments, policy analysis, and regulatory frameworks in sustainable energy solutions.
- Strong understanding of energy systems (electricity, heat, transport) and their interaction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Swedish proficiency or willingness to learn is advantageous).
We also hope that you have:
- Experience from working with legal issues (e.g. related to policy and permit processes).
- Good knowledge and understanding in the field of energy-technical industrial processes, process technology, optimization, and integration or energy system analysis.
