Our laboratories support cutting-edge research and monitoring projects involving environmental contaminants in air, water, soil, sludge, biota, indoor environments, and waste materials. We work with advanced analytical methods and instrumentation to investigate emerging contaminants and support environmental risk assessment and sustainability initiatives.
We are now looking for a Junior Analytical Chemist to strengthen our analytical laboratory team.
About the Role
As a Junior Analytical Chemist, you will support the analysis of environmental samples using modern chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques. You will work closely with experienced scientists and laboratory staff on projects involving environmental monitoring, research, and method development.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career who is motivated to develop practical laboratory skills in environmental analytical chemistry.
Your Key Responsibilities
Preparation and extraction of environmental samples including water, soil, sludge, dust, air filters, and biological materials
Support routine and research-based chemical analyses using:
LC-MS/MS
GC-MS/MS
UHPLC-HRMS
Sample extraction and clean-up techniques (e.g., SPE, MAE, QuEChERS, Soxhlet, LLE)
Assist in instrument operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Prepare standards, reagents, and quality control samples
Process, review, and document analytical data according to laboratory procedures
Contribute to method optimization and validation activities
Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
Work according to quality assurance and laboratory safety procedures
Collaborate with researchers and laboratory colleagues across multidisciplinary projects
Your background
Education and Experience
BSc or MSc in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
Previous laboratory experience through studies, thesis work, internships, or employment is highly valued
Experience with chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques is an advantage but not requiredlities
Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an advantage:
Environmental contaminants (PFAS, plasticizers, pesticides, VOCs/SVOCs, etc.)
Sample preparation and extraction methods
LC-MS/MS or GC-MS/MS operation
LIMS and ISO/accredited laboratory environments
Knowledge and Skills
We are looking for someone who:
Has a strong interest in environmental analytical chemistry
Is motivated to learn advanced analytical instrumentation
Has good organizational and problem-solving skills
Can work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
Is careful, structured, and quality-oriented in laboratory work
Has good communication skills in English (Swedish is an advantage)
Is comfortable working with laboratory software and Microsoft Office tools

Additional flexibility when life changes
We offer IVL Part-Time, which allows employees in Sweden to temporarily reduce their working hours, typically to 80%. Additional time for recovery
